UPDATE-A: THERE ARE NOW NEARLY 200 MUSIC SUPERVISOR TWITTER PROFILES IN THIS LIST!! SUBSCRIBE AND FOLLOW MY PROFILE!!

If you haven't kept up on my facebook profile and page posts (LIKE MY PAGE!! Grimm Factor Music Publishing) or my blog posts, let me do a quick rundown of who music supervisors are, what they do, and how to target them.

Music Supervisors are people hired to find music to synch with various visual media projects like TV, Film, Video Games, and Commercials. Most of them have their own tastes in music but many of them place music in projects based on the needs of the project. For Example: Music to fit the scene of betrayal in a movie.

Once the desired music is found, either the Music Supervisor or a separate music licensing department clears the music with whomever owns the rights so that the track can be used in the media. Part of the process of clearance is to pay a LICENSING FEE to the rights holder ($$$) based on the budget of the project. Sometimes a project may not have a budget but will still offer credit to the rights owner.

Best way to target these music supervisors on twitter is to follow their tweets (thats what my list is for) and engage with them. Do your research on them. Find out what they have worked on before or what they are working on now. Learn what their preferences of music are. Listen to what they listen to. Talk to them. Build a relationship with them. Its all part of networking. When you see an opportunity present itself for you to pass your music along to them, do so. Just make sure your music fits what they are looking for. Be patient and in time you may just find yourself in the credits of a feature film, tv show, or video game.

UPDATE-B:
What I don't suggest you do is blindly send out mentions to each music supervisor...thats like advertising. If you decide to contact them outside of twitter, make sure you have their permission to email them first. You can never go wrong with getting permission. Then they will know that you are sending them something. Don't just reach out once, reach out again if you have to. Remember, music supervisors are busy folk, so sometimes they may not get back to you. Just don't over do it. Follow each Music Supervisors protocol for submitting your music. If they want a CD...send them a CD. If you're savvy enough you maybe able to use web licensing stores like LicenseQuote, CueSongs, and Source Audio. Then you can direct the music supervisor that store. There is a price to pay for these platforms so make your best choice based on your budget. Should you find a music supervisor in the list that hasn't tweeted in a long time, check their profile's bio for a website, email, or their real name. If you don't see a website or email, then use google to find them by name. I can guarantee they are on some other social network or industry site like IMDB.

I have more lists on twitter covering different areas of music publishing and licensing and entertainment. Subscribe to those lists if you choose to. I am always adding to them. Some of the music supervisors appear in multiple lists due to their other endeavors.

Good Hunting!

If you are a music supervisor or know of any music supervisors that are not on this list and want to be included in this list, then please add your name and twitter username in the comments section below and I'll add you to the list!
